What is
"Yumcha" ?
Yum cha, literally meaning drinking tea in Cantonese, is a Cantonese tradition of food culture, which is very popular in Guangdong, Hong Kong and other Cantonese-speaking areas. Yum cha generally comprises small portions of steamed, pan-fried, or deep-fried dim sum dishes served in bamboo steamers, which are designed to be eaten with hot tea. But for most Cantonese people, yum cha is more like a social occasion where they can talk about the week’s events and happenings with their families and friends.
Join us at Hometown Secret Hobart and enjoy the authentic flavours of our culture!
EXCELLENT Based on 514 reviews Posted on Google Emily Purcell Authentic Chinese food that is absolutely delicious! Everything was 10/10!Posted on Google Graham Smith The staff are really nice and the food is delicious.Posted on Google Alan Dominguez Posted on Google Jessiy F My favourite restaurant in all of hobart.Posted on Google Lincoln Gillam Good old school Chinese - local atmosphere, quality food. We had yum cha, everybody was happy.Posted on Google Ravindi jaywardena We ordered Braised beef noodle, pork soup dumplings, chicken and prawn pan fried dumplings and the hometown special fried rice. Every thing was delicious except the noodle is a bit more sweet for my liking but the service was great and I had a good time. Definitely recommend.Posted on Google Xiaoyu Wu Yummy!Posted on Google Mikala Whiting Great service. The staff are so lovely and so cheery. The food is so yummy, comes out quickly.Posted on Google Y Å M Ê Z There are restaurants that serve food, and then there are restaurants that remind you why you fell in love with food in the first place. Hometown Secret is firmly in the second category. From the moment we sat down, the service was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming. No theatrics. No gimmicks. Just people who clearly care about what they're doing. The food was exceptional. The prawn dumplings arrived delicate and translucent, packed with sweet, fresh prawns. The pork and prawn shao mai were plump, juicy and beautifully balanced. The beancurd skin rolls with oyster sauce were rich, silky and deeply satisfying, while the black bean pork ribs delivered that perfect combination of tenderness, savoury depth and sticky, finger-licking flavour. The beancurd spring rolls with shrimp were crisp, light and impossibly moreish. Then came the hometown crispy fried chicken. Golden, crackling and outrageously good. The kind of dish that silences conversation because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying it. What impressed us most was that everything tasted as though it had been made moments before it reached the table. Freshly prepared, authentic and full of character. No shortcuts. No factory-produced flavours. Just honest cooking executed with confidence and skill. Hobart has some excellent dining options, but Hometown Secret stands out because it feels genuine. The food has soul, the service has heart, and every dish tells you that someone in the kitchen takes pride in their craft. We'll be back, and we'll be bringing friends.Posted on Google Jason Cole Really good food but pricey IMO, the bill was $175.90 - we have yum Cha in Sydney with way more food for around $130. The yum Cha menu has no prices. The good news is the food was on point and very tasty! The service was prompt and friendly and the dine in was ok.
